Art historian receives award from Vitterhetsakademien

Every year, Vitterhetsakademien (The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities) confers prizes for outstanding scholarly achievements. PhD Hedvig Mårdh at Uppsala University was one of the 2017 prizewinners.

Mårdh works at the Department of Art History and received the prize for her doctoral thesis “A Century of Swedish Gustavian Style. Art History, Cultural Heritage and Neoclassical Revivals from the 1890s to the 1990s.”

The thesis is based on the research field of critical cultural heritage studies and investigates the role of art history in the creation of cultural heritage and the link to a national cultural heritage.

The prize will be awarded in conjunction with the Academy's annual ceremony in Riddarhuset in Stockholm. The prize amounts to SEK 50,000.
